Tata Motors Begins Assembling Jaguar Land Rover Vehicles at Its Chennai Plant

Tata Motors is expanding its manufacturing footprint in India with an important new step β€” starting assembly of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) vehicles at its Panapakkam facility near Chennai.

Located in the Ranipet district of Tamil Nadu, this factory is part of a larger investment by Tata Motors to increase production capacity and support its premium vehicle lineup. The company has invested around β‚Ή9,000 crore into building the facility, which is designed to produce up to 2.5 lakh vehicles per year once fully operational.

Until now, JLR vehicles were assembled at Tata Motors’ Pune plant from imported kits. By starting assembly in Chennai, the company is aiming to expand capacity and make the most of available resources.

While Tata Motors hasn’t officially confirmed which models will be built first, many reports indicate that the Range Rover Evoque will likely be the first vehicle assembled at this new plant.

The Chennai plant will help create new jobs and support a broader manufacturing ecosystem in the region. As production scales up over the next few years, it could also open up opportunities for exports and further local assembly of Tata and JLR models.
