Exciting news for sportbike enthusiasts! KTM is working on the next-generation RC 390, with its major update planned for 2027.
According to Manik Nangia, President of Probiking at Bajaj Auto, the current RC 390 will continue with its proven single-cylinder engine for now. However, the 2027 model is expected to bring significant changes, including the possibility of a new twin-cylinder engine platform.

What This Could Mean:
- Smoother and more refined performance thanks to the twin-cylinder setup (potentially offering better power delivery and riding comfort)
- Sharper, more modern design with new LED headlights and sporty winglets
- Improved competitiveness in the segment against rivals like the Yamaha R3, Kawasaki Ninja 400, and Aprilia RS 457
- Potential platform sharing across other KTM 390 models (Duke and Adventure) for better overall refinement
The current RC 390 remains a favourite for its agile handling, track-ready feel, and accessible performance with the 373cc single-cylinder engine (around 43.5 PS). The next-gen version aims to take things further while keeping the fun, lightweight character that RC riders love.

KTM and Bajaj are also exploring a new 350cc engine option in the future to make premium riding more accessible under current tax structures.
While full technical details are still under wraps, this long development timeline suggests a thoughtful, generational leap rather than a simple update.
If you enjoy sporty riding with sharp styling and engaging performance, the 2027 RC 390 could be worth waiting for!
