Mahindra Price Hike for Thar and Scorpio-N

If you were planning to kick off 2026 by bringing home a rugged Mahindra SUV, you might need to adjust your budget slightly. Following the industry tradition of “New Year price corrections,” Mahindra & Mahindra has officially increased the prices for its two most popular icons: the Thar and the Scorpio-N, effective from January 17, 2026.

While price hikes are never the news we want to hear, understanding the “why” and “how much” can help you make a better buying decision. Here is the breakdown for our CarBhumi community.

1. The Damage: How Much More Will You Pay?

The price increase isn’t a flat rate; it varies depending on which variant you’ve set your heart on.

  • The Range: Hikes range from ₹10,500 to ₹35,500.
  • Scorpio-N: The base Z2 petrol-manual model saw the highest percentage jump (up by 2.18%), now starting at ₹13.49 Lakh.
  • The Big Hitters: If you’re eyeing the top-of-the-line Z8L 4WD (Diesel Automatic), prepare to shell out an extra ₹35,500. In big metros, this could push the final on-road price close to the ₹28-30 Lakh mark.
  • The Thar: While Mahindra hasn’t released a line-by-line list for every Thar variant yet, expect a jump of ₹10,000 to ₹30,000, with the 4WD Diesel models likely bearing the brunt of the increase.

2. Why the Hike?

Mahindra had previously hoped to avoid a routine January price increase. However, the reality of the global economy caught up. Rising costs of raw materials (like steel and precious metals), currency fluctuations, and general supply chain expenses meant the company had to pass some of that cost on to consumers to maintain their quality standards.

3. The “GST Seesaw” Effect

Interestingly, this hike comes just a few months after some relief. Back in September 2025, a GST revision actually brought prices down for the Scorpio-N (by as much as ₹1.45 Lakh in some cases).

Unfortunately, this January hike effectively “eats up” some of those gains. If you bought your car late last year, you likely got the best deal possible!

4. What If You’ve Already Booked?

Here is the silver lining:

Important Note: If you booked your Thar or Scorpio-N before January 17, 2026, and your car is invoiced before the new rates are fully implemented, you will likely be protected by the old pricing. If you’re placing a fresh order today, the new prices will apply.

5. Is the “Big Daddy” and “Off-Road King” Still Worth It?

Despite the rising costs, the demand for these SUVs isn’t slowing down.

  • Scorpio-N: Still remains the go-to for families who want a rugged, 3-row SUV that can handle broken roads better than a Tata Safari or Hyundai Alcazar.
  • Thar: Continues to be in a league of its own for lifestyle buyers. Even with the hike, its “cool factor” and off-road chops remain unmatched in its price bracket.

CarBhumi’s Advice: With waiting periods still stretching into several months for specific variants, “waiting for a price drop” is usually not a winning strategy with Mahindra. If you need a car this year, it’s better to book now before further inflationary hikes hit later in the year.

Are these price hikes a deal-breaker for you, or is the Scorpio-N still the king of your heart? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
